The problem with the zombie apocalypse pt 2

The worst part is the other survivors. IT’S PEOPLE!

Zombies kill indiscriminately. They kill the too smart, the too dumb, the antivaxxers who refused protection from the disease… It doesn’t matter what color, religion or gender you declare yourself to be. All a zombie cares about is if you are living or dead. There’s no torture and no reason for them to purposefully draw out the death. Once, they bite into the brain, it’s over, and you don’t come back.

People, on the other hand, let the lack of law go to their power mad minds. Granted the groaning of zombies outside the gate could drive anyone crazy. However, there are people who will torture, abuse and seek to control others through manipulation and pain. Some do it just for fun. Others will kill just out of fear. Resources are scarce. Another mouth to feed, even one that is wandering through may just be enough to tip the scales of survival in the wrong way. Of course, they’re gonna have to kill you twice to make sure it sticks.

But the biggest problem is that you ever know what you are gonna get with people. They are totally unpredictable. If you were around back when this all started, you probably saw the videos of people pulling together. You had coverage of the good and the bad. The ugly showed up later. A stranger might take you in for a while and you could have a great time eating and conversing and being safe. Then it could all unravel. The person might have been buttering you up for the dinner table. Or they might have a zombie family member in the basement that needs to be fed. Or they might take off with all your stuff leaving you to fend for your life with nothing more than a kitchen knife. Or it could be great. You just can’t tell, and unfortunately people still need to interact with one another. We are genetically a social animal. You just gotta hope you don’t get tangled up with the wrong crew. However, when things get desperate, it is the rare few that will stand by their principles, and the cynical will say that those principles will get them killed.
